MASTERS ROWING

Our core program: coached open rowing for adults who've rowed before — whether that was last season or twenty years ago. Expect technique rows, steady state, and race lineups for fall head season. Rusty is fine; we'll knock it off together.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes — you must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for 10 minutes, or wear a PFD on the water. We take a signed swim-test attestation at registration.

What should I wear?

Snug athletic clothes (loose shorts catch in the seat tracks), socks you don't mind getting wet, sunglasses, and a hat. Dress in layers — mornings on the river run 10° cooler than town.

How fit do I need to be?

If you can walk a couple of miles, you can start rowing. The stroke is low-impact and scalable — we have members from 20 to 78 years old.

When are practices?

Summer open rows are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 5:30 AM, plus a Wednesday evening row at 6 PM. Fall shifts to weekends as daylight shortens.

Do I need my own boat?

No. Members use club singles, doubles, quads, fours, and our eight. Private boat storage racks are available for a small annual fee.

What if conditions are bad?

Coaches call it by 8 PM the night before — posted to Facebook and the member email list. Bad-water days often become erg or technique sessions at the boathouse.
